Another win for those of us in the Anti-DRM camp. Assasins creeds DRM has been fully cracked by SKIDROW. Hopefully this will show Ubisoft and the like that people will not accept this. If i buy a game i want to be able to use it how i want, when i want and where i want!
Another reason why DRM like this is a fail waiting to happen is because the game relies so heavily on the developers services. The perfect example of this is when an anti-DRM group DDOS’d the ubisoft authentication servers. What this means to the customers is they are infact totally unable to play there lovely new game. At least with older methods of DRM customers are able to play the single player modes if the online service is unavailable.
Ubisofts DRM for assasins creed 2 was like nothing anyone had seen before in that you required an internet connection whether you were playing online or offline. Naturally this annoyed a lot of gamers, as not everyone has an internet connection on there gaming rig.

ONLINE SERVICES PLATFORM Q&A
Frequent Asked Questions about Ubisoft’s Online Services Platform for PC
What are the key elements of this platform for PC gamers?
Although a permanent online connection is required, this means that a CD/DVD is not required to play the game after installation. The protected game can be installed as many times and on as many computers as you like. Saved games are also synchronized online so the user can continue playing from any location with the game installed.
How many players can the server system support?
There is no limit to how many players can play at the same time. For each title, we carefully study the demand and allocate servers accordingly. We will also of course allocate back-up servers in order to be able to respond to fluctuations in demand. Ubisoft provides 24/7 monitoring of its servers.
How many computers can I install the game on?
There is no limit to the number of computers on which you can install the game. However you can only play with your individual Ubisoft account on one computer at a time.

If any service is stopped, we will create a patch for the game so that the core game play will not be affected.
What will happen if I lose my Internet connection when I play the game?
If you lose your Internet connection the game will pause while it tries to reconnect. If the Internet connection is unable to resume, the server will have stored your last saved game and you will be able to continue from where you left off once your internet connection is restored.
Why do I need to register with a Ubisoft account?
The synchronized saved games are personal, so to access them you need to log in. Why is Ubisoft forcing their loyal customers to sign up for a Ubisoft account when they don’t want to give their private data and only play single player games?
We hope that customers will feel as we do, that signing up for an account will offer them exceptional gameplay and services that are not available otherwise.
Before SKIDROW’s release there had been many server emulators released which made both pirated and original games work offline, but only now has a full crack been released.
SKIDROW had this to say
Thank you Ubisoft, this was quiete a challenge for us, but nothing stops the leading force from doing what we do. Next time focus on the game and not on the DRM. It was probably horrible for all legit users. We just make their lifes easier.
This release is an accomplishment of weeks of investigating, experimenting, testing and lots of hard work. We know that there is a server emulator out in the open, which makes the game playable, but when you look at our cracked content, you will know that it can’t be compared to that. Our work does not construct any program deviation or any kind of host file paradox solutions. Install game and copy the cracked content, it’s that simple.
The main question on everyones minds now though is if this is going to make any difference to future Ubisoft releases? Will they continue to use this style of DRM? I *really* hope not, but we shall see…..
-=A little edit=-
Now i didnt really want this blog to turn out like the thousands of others on these intertubes by just calling out other writers but unfortuanatly im going to have to here.
Here on the tweakguides website (http://www.tweakguides.com/AC2_1.html) The writer mentions that these methods of DRM are forced upon us by piracy….Well to him i say BULLSHIT! Piracy makes people aware of bands, films and games that they never knew existed, Piracy MAKES these industries, not breaks them.
