Continue readingI needed to update a server from ESXi 5.0 to 5.5 which was hosted with OVH. I really didnt want to rebuild it using their installer as it would mean reformatting and rebuilding and also a lot of downtime. Luckily, it seems its possible to update it using esxicli. This is how i did it.

Id highly recommend getting it, even if its just to support the pfSense project. If you dont want to for whatever reason (though id highly suggest you do) then you can roll your own backup script. After getting dual-boot working fine for a few days, Debian disappeared from the EFI boot menu and grub no longer booted. This looks like an issue with a corrupt EFI partition.
